Indiana Liquor Laws

If your event is at a private residence - your personal home, backyard, basement, rooftop - there are no state mandated rules.

YOU can supply your own alcohol. WE can serve hard alcohol, beer and wine.

If your event is at a public venue that you have paid money to rent the space - the rules are as follows:

You must hire a state licensed caterer whom holds a 3-way license, if you want to serve hard alcohol. They are responsible for ordering, supplying, distributing, etc.

If you would like to serve beer and wine, you have two choices.

1. You can hire a caterer who has a 3-way license. The caterer must order supply, distribute, and pay taxes on the liquor.

OR

2. We can obtain a temporary beer and wine permit. Under the permit the rules are as follows:

  1. File for a “temporary beer and wine permit” (permit 118) - The state charges $50. I can help you file for this permit!

  2. You must present a drawing of the venue, the bar location included. The bar must be in an area for 21+ only.

  3. YOU MUST HIRE A PERMITTED BARTENDER- THATS ME!

  4. There must be a separate area with non-alcoholic beverages, so children are not going to the bar for any reason.

  5. Once the party starts there can not be any carry in. Meaning no liquor store runs.

  6. Only beer, wine, champagne and malt based beverages are allowed- the package must state the type and alcohol percentage - must be under 21% alcohol.
